Classical Dance Jewelry

India is world famous for its classical Indian dances. Indian Classical Dance is one of the most comprehensive and oldest dance forms in the world. Indian classical dances showcase types of expression such as “Love, Mirth, Pity or Tender, Anger or Wrath, Heroism, Terror or Fear, Astonishment or Surprise, Tranquility or Peace, Disgust. These are the kinds of emotions felt by humans. Popular Indian classical dances are – Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Manipuri, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Kathakali and Sattriya.

Classical dancers performing various dance forms are given an exquisite appearance by embellishing them with sparkling Indian jewelry. The most typical items of jewelry are the head piece , with the rakodi, worn just above the flowers in the hair, and the Chandran - suryan (moon and sun) on either side, as the head symbolizes the firmament. The ear ornaments consist of two pieces, the maatal (chain), jhumki (hanging earring). For the neck there is the adigai (short necklace) and a longer haram with a broad padakkam. vanki; for the upper arm, gold bangles or bangles matching to the color of the costume for the wrist, an odiyanam or broad ornament belt and a hair ornament decorated with jewels in the long plait, completes the ensemble and ghungroos, which are an essential part of most dance forms.
